CMS Transitions Away from Free Technical Assistance in Quality Payment Program

June 2019

On June 7, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) announced that its technical assistance for certain providers in its Quality Payment Program (QPP) would be phased out. In 2017, CMS launched a free technical assistance program for clinicians participating in the QPP’s Merit-based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) as part of an education and outreach effort to raise awareness and help clinicians successfully participate in the QPP. However, the free technical assistance for MIPS-eligible clinicians in large practices will end on July 17. CMS will continue to provide free technical assistance to MIPS-eligible clinicians in small practices through its Small, Underserved, and Rural Support initiative.
