Recommendations for Value-Based Payment Programs in Skilled Nursing Facilities

November 2019

The Advancing Excellence in Long-Term Care Collaborative (AELTCC) convened a panel and developed a white paper to address challenges in implementing value-based payment (VBP) programs in long-term and post-acute-care settings. Discern Health Director and AELTCC Secretary Theresa Schmidt co-led the white paper development, with contributions from other AELTCC stakeholders.

The white paper, Putting “Value” Back In Value-Based Payment For Skilled Nursing Facilities, provides a landscape overview of VBP programs relevant to skilled nursing facilities (SNFs) and clinicians. It also describes some of the challenges in implementing VBP from the SNF perspective and offers recommendations to ensure value is not lost.
